Objective: freedom, this defocusing of the look…ssayan is initially dancer in Primitive Expression, a dynamic and festive dance, based on pulsation, which combines voice and rhythmic gesture, deconstructed and simplified, to obtain an archetypal and stylized movement.
In the artistic sphere, Primitive Expression is part of the primitivist aesthetic, based on the search for simple and basic shapes.
Primitive Expression can be practiced as a wellness and recreational activity.
It is also a form of dance therapy.
After a course in Art Therapy, major Performing Arts, at the University of Medicine Paris Descartes (France), ssayan specializes during three years in Primitive Expression with France Schott-Billmann (doctor of psychology, dancer and anthropologist) at L’Atelier du Geste Rythmé Paris (French for Rhythmic Gesture Atelier).
She intervenes in expression ateliers – including for CADEF, The Child Protection Association where she was a specialised educator from 2005 to 2012.
Between 2011 and 2013, she hosted a weekly workshop of Primitive Expression for adults in Charleville-Mézières (France), a kind of laboratory for wellness and personal development, exploring and researching open passages between our inner and outer worlds, shaping the intangible through the visible gesture.
In 2012, ssayan leaves her career as a social worker to focus exclusively on her artistic activities.
She begins to pose as a model for the photographer Jean-Marc Vesseron, soon designing and staging her own shootings (see the nude series On the landing).
Her encounter with the painter Sylvain Paris leads her to realise body painting performances, through their innuit & ssayan duo.
ssayan appears in these performances as her conceptual dual, ssayan manga, hybrid and atypical personage, who brings the sound, text and rhythm dimensions, in a mix of corporal, audio and visual material.
ssayan publishes texts, songs lyrics, poems and comics – and continues her publishing and exhibition projects.
In the same playful and poetic spirit, ssayan is regularly involved in art exhibitions as LOV – Livre d’Or Vivant (French for Living Guestbook), where she appears as a body-painted and animated artwork.
ssayan considers the model as an autonomous subject, which cannot be reduced to passivity, being rather a co-creator of the artwork brought to life on his own body, in an equilateral exchange with the painter. As such, the models’ body becomes a projective space, an alloy of the two individualities of the painter and the painted.
Because the union also gives tenderness and depth of things, ssayan has two sides, artistic associations: the main one is Blue Spoon, created with the photographer and videographer Cristian Samoila.
With him, ssayan now converges her artistic act to mixed and remixed multimedia artworks, and to more interactivity with the public: the Media-OVNIs (French for Media-UFOs).
But changeable am I only, and wild, and altogether a woman […]
